Description

With our new mobile bluetooth particulate matter data logger TMT-WP6932-BT you can detect hazardous particulate matter pollution (PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10), hazardous formaldehyde compounds (HCHO) and organic compounds (TVOC). Detecting and determining benzene in real time or recording it using an integrated data logger or Play the data on your smartphone. In addition, this latest generation of devices has several self-calibration routines for consistently reliable results.

For a room climate overview, the device has sensors for temperature and humidity. The total air quality is signaled in addition to the individual measured values also on the basis of 6 different colored LED bar displays (green to red) and 3 smiley symbols. If the air quality is in a negative range, the display lights red and an icon appears. If the air quality is no longer reasonable, an additional signal sounds. The device is energy efficient. If no operation takes place, the device will switch to standby mode after approx. 15 minutes, after two hours it will switch off automatically.

Particulate pollution PM1.0 / PM2.5 and PM10
The fine dust consists of a complex mixture of solid and liquid particles and is divided into different fractions depending on their size. Primary particulate matter is released immediately at the source. If the particles are formed by gaseous precursors such as sulfur and nitrogen oxides and ammonia, they are referred to as secondary particulate matter. A distinction is made between PM10 with a maximum diameter of 10 micrometers (µm) and PM2.5 whose diameter is smaller than 2.5 µm.

Fine dust is mostly produced by human action, but can also be of natural origin, for example, as a result of soil erosion. Primary particulate matter is produced by emissions from motor vehicles, power plants and district heating plants, stoves and heaters in residential buildings, in metal and steel production or when handling bulk materials. Another important source is agriculture. Above all, the ammonia emissions from the animal contents contribute to secondary fine dust formation.

It has been known for years that particulate matter can cause severe health problems. PM10 can invade the nasal cavity, PM2.5, into the bronchi and alveoli. Depending on the size and depth of penetration of the particles, the health effects are different. The effects include the enhancement of allergy symptoms, the increase of asthmatic seizures, respiratory ailments, otitis media and lung cancer caused by cigarette smoke.

Formaldehyde HCHO
Who can be really sure there hides no threat behind the typical smell of new rooms or new interior fittings? The effect of evaporation can lead to serious diseases. A formaldehyde measurement gives first insights.

Critical are chipboards and glued wood materials such as wallboards. Formaldehyde can appear in textiles, special insulating materials (foams and resin), nail polish, cosmetics, cleaning agents and disinfectants, paints and colors.

Which threshold value applies for formaldehyde?
Threshold values with an adverse health effect are measured by „parts per million“ (ppm). This corresponds to a weight unit milligrams per one kilogram. In textiles is the threshold value is 16ppm. In interiors the unit is one milliliter per one cubic meter. Formaldehyde is approved as a preservative and must be specified in cosmetics if the concentration exceeds 0.05%. Permitted are 0.1% for oral hygiene articles and 0.5% for nail hardener.

Organic compounds TVOC
Volatile organic compounds (=TVOC) is a group of elements of air pollutants, which always occur in the ambient air. These are of natural origin and in commodities of daily use. Interior relevant sources of emissions are lumber, panels, candles, heating systems, furniture and furnishings, wall cladding and carpet. Health effects: tiredness, headache, irritation of eyes, nose, throat etc. Benzene is a know carcinogenic.
